Diversity Evaluation and Visualisation of Politicians

Sep. 2023 ~ Dec. 2023

Kakao Imapct Foundation × NewWays

A project to evaluate, visualise and promote diversity in local politics.

Our project was born out of the belief that diversity within political groups is key to truly representing the people’s voice. Previously, efforts were made to evaluate the diversity among politicians, utilising data from National Election Commission, and the public APIs provided by the Public Data Portal. Accessing this information was relatively straightforward, yet we often encountered gaps or snapshots limited to specific moments in time, making a comprehensive diversity assessment challenging.

To tackle this issue, we began on a journey to harness the power of web scraping to gather the data we needed. We then processed this data and presented it through a web service that visualises the diversity within our political landscape. Our project aims to inform the politically interested citizens, providing them with insights into who is working for them and how. By harnessing real-time web crawling, we opened a window to diverse political insights, making the complex landscape of politics more accessible and understandable.

This project addresses the rapidly expanding interest in home workouts accelerated by the COVID-19 pandemic. Leveraging computer vision, we developed a solution that analyses and clusters different yoga poses from images, offering insights and feedback on postures for non-face-to-face yoga practice. The system employs state-of-the-art models for pose estimation, feature extraction, and clustering, culminating in a user-friendly visualisation of the yoga poses to assist users in enhancing their practice.
